Although I can see the initial appeal of claimid, I can’t for the life of me see how it can possibly scale. I mean, how many Ian Rogers’ are there?

Quite a few, as you know.
My brother decided to visit me once, and as I had recently moved, he didn’t happen to have my phone number or street address but he did remember the street name. Clever lad that he is, he looked up Ian Rogers on my street with the telephone company’s directory service, and came over. Well, as it happens, the phone was listed under my girlfriend’s name but there was an Ian Rogers living directly across the street from me. Imagine my brother’s surprise when instead of a small white guy, a large black guy came to the door. “I’m looking for Ian Rogers”, my brother said, to which this large man replied “Yeah, that’s me”, eyeing my brother suspiciously. Awkward! In any case, my brother beat a polite retreat to the nearest phone booth, looked up my girlfriend, and fortunately there was only one person with her name on our street.

I once started a yahoo group for people named Ian Rogers. We got together half a dozen of us. We came to the conclusion that it was a pretty boring name, but could be worse. Thent he conversation sort of fizzled out.
Hmmmmmm.
It means “Son of Famespear, Gift of God.” which is a bit more exciting. But not much.
